Assignment #1:  Smokey's Ski & Snowboarding Site Design

Synopsis

Your employer tells you that he just got a call from Smokey's Ski & Snowboarding Shop in Whistler BC, and that they need a new website designed (home page only) That will be used as a template

About the Client: These guys are young 'ski bums' that started a business a few years ago and have done very well for themselves. They have a main site, but want this new site (to be linked from the main) to just focus on their snowboarding excursions into the backcountry of Whistler. The site must be vibrant, energetic, and most of all appeal to a younger crowd (early 20's).

Requirements: XHTML Pages

Using the same design layout recreate the layout as a fixed width (800 x 600 resolution - 780 px max) - a fluid layout (80% minimum) and an elastic layout (size based on the fixed site)

These pages will be constructed using CSS Divs. No Tables - anywhere.

"Expandable" (Css Layout- adding or removing content should not effect the rest of the page)

Lorem CANNOT be used for filler text . Create the copy by researching - whistler / snowboarding tours / etc - and compiling "copy" that make sense to the page.

Include "best practices" for search engine ranking (page title, meta tags, choice of tags, h tags, bold, placement and repetition of keywords etc)

Navigation - Must have the link titles: Home, About Us, Excursions, Trails, Contact (Navigation must be contained in an unordered list - horizontal or vertical menus with rollovers)

Distinct areas of the pages - (testimonials, news, about us, recent work, etc with headers)

Multiple link styles in the site

Meta tags - Description and keywords

Folder structure must be well organized

Requirements: Design

Must use images taken from stock photography sites

Banner - must contain the title of the site (Smokey's Ski & Snowboarding) and strong imagery to set the tone of the site.
