A bit about me...
I have 23 years experience in the graphic design, advertising and commercial printing fields. In addition to my years of industry consulting and training experience, I have been teaching at the college level for six years.I have worked in advertising agencies, for commercial printers and have also run my own graphic design company.
What to expect...
Attendance – It is in your best interest to attend class and be on time. We have a lot of important skills to learn this term and if you miss classes, you will quickly fall behind. If everyone is on-time and ready to go, we can get through the day's required instruction. If we accomplish that, you will have the remaining class time to work on your projects.I take attendance at the beginning of class. If you arrive late, it is your responsibility to see me to be sure that you get checked off as being present. If you leave early, please see me to let me know that you have left for the day.
Lab Rules – You have all been read the riot act and you know know the lab rules – I expect you to follow them… that means NO FOOD is allowed in the classroom. Drinks in a sealable container are now permitted. If you can seal it and turn it upside-down with no spillage, you're fine. Tim Hortons paper cups with the plastic lid are unacceptable. If you want a coffee, invest in a travel mug that seals completely.
Homework – There will be homework and it does count towards your final grade... don't throw easy marks away.
Follow the Project Briefing – Think of each project as a test and all of the required elements of the project as questions. If you do not complete one or more of the project requirements, it's the same as not answering questions on a test. For example, if the briefing indicates that you are to use named layer sets and you do not, you get a zero for that portion of the project.
Personal Accountability – My job is to teach you the skills required for a career in the graphic design field. Part of that is personal accountability. It is up to each and every one of you to take personal accountability for your success (or lack thereof) in this program. Be on time. Be organized. Take pride in your work.
Contacting Me – My only on-campus days are Monday, 5 to 8 and all day on Friday. If you need to reach me for any reason, please e-mail me at billbowman@mac.com.
