Graphic Design Policy
1. The grades of A+, A, B, C, and D constitute credit standing
towards progression and graduation in all GRAPHIC DESIGN
PROGRAM courses.
90% - 100% = A+
80% - 89% = A
75% - 79% = B+
70% - 74% = B
65% - 69% = C+
60% - 64% = C
55% - 59% = D+
50% - 54% = D
0% - 49% = F
2. A grade of “F” is final and cannot be upgraded. A student receiving a final grade of “F” in any course must repeat that course and attain a passing grade to allow for Progression/Graduation.
3. All courses in each level must be passed in order to continue on to the next level.
4. Forms indicating grading categories, areas for improvement and written comments will accompany evaluated assignments.
5. Assignments must be submitted by the time specified. Failure to do so will result in a mark of “0”, (zero) unless an illness/emergency can be proven with appropriate documentation - at no cost to the college.
6. Students are expected to attend all classes, field trips and lectures. It is the responsibility of the student to be prepared for each class with the necessary materials and equipment.
7. Final course grades will be based solely on overall assignment/test/exam performance.
8. Progression in The Graphic Design Program requires the successful completion of all course assignments/tests/exams/components, by specified deadlines.
9. All student assignment work must be completed to an acceptable standard before a grade will be assigned. This standard is at the discretion of the Course Professor.
10. All courses are semestered and only failing or borderline failing students will be informed, in writing, of their performance after week 7.
11. All assignments must be given to the course professor directly by specified deadline, in a regularly scheduled class.
12. Courses are delivered as in-class demonstrations and/or lectures; therefore, any missed classes will result in the student missing classroom content information. Such information is not provided at a later time.
13. It is highly probable that absence from 3 or more classes will jeopardize average or above average grades and may cause failing grades. Any student who arrives late or misses class will not be given personal review of the content information that they have missed.
14. CHEATING – all forms of cheating are considered an academic offense and the College has a clear policy on cheating. Please refer to Policy 2-G-04 in the library.
15. PLAGIARISM – is considered to be a form of cheating and, if detected, a report will be placed in students file so as to implement the College Policy on cheating.
16. CODE OF CONDUCT – the College has a policy on student conduct. Please refer to Policy 2-G-01 in the library.
17. GRADE RECORDS – Students are responsible for keeping track of their own grade records, prerequisites and that all criteria are met for graduation.
18. Evaluation in all courses is a continuous process. Whilst every effort is made to continually inform the student as to their progress it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they are aware of their standing. If at any time you are not completely aware of your standing in any course please approach the course professor in a regularly scheduled class for an update on your grade standing.
19. Students are responsible for purchasing their own supplies and materials. For the most part these supplies and materials are expensive and students are advised to devise and adhere to a self-directed budget for the purpose of purchasing such. A list of these supplies and materials will be provided at the beginning of the semester. Substitutions are not permitted unless approved by the course professor.
20. Course/assignment specific additional supplies/materials may be required and will be specified by the course professor in advance. Digital file output is available from the Fanshawe College Reprographics Office, or public “service bureau.” Students are free to use any source for digital file output
21. Questions or issues concerning course content or day to day issues should be discussed firstly with the course professor and then, if required, with the program coordinator.
22. Computer Labs H2024 - H2026 - H2030 are under 24/7 Digital Video Surveillance.
23. Any student misconduct will result in student banishment from these labs outside of class/instruction hours.
24. Lab Rules
RULE 1. - Do not bring or consume food or drink in a lab
RULE 2. - No Porn Surfing
RULE 3. - No Equipment Mistreatment/Vandalism/Theft
RULE 4. - No Software Pirating
RULE 5. - Do Not touch the instructor workstation
RULE 6. - No Audio - except by headphones
RULE 7. - Do Not move, exchange, or alter any computer
hardware or software in any way.
RULE 8. - Do Not prop open the hallway/lab door, use H2024 for
entry access and the hallway door for exit only.
25. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY TELEPHONES, CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO SECURITY, ARE LOCATED IN THE HALLWAYS BY THE ELEVATORS.
26. Computer Labs are not available for student use after the last day of each semester.
27. During course teaching hours Computer Labs are restricted to scheduled class students only, except by permission of course professor.
28. It is recommended that all student digital files be “backed-up” with at least one copy of their files - by the student. Digital files that are claimed damaged or lost will not be accepted as a reasonable excuse for incomplete or late assignments. Likewise system or equipment failures will not constitute a reason for incomplete or late assignments. The need to develop alternative resources for all digital production is recommended. Advice on this digital issue is:
• always plan for the very worst
• back up all your files - then back up the back ups
• allow extra time for the possibility of problems
• have an alternative method of working/production |
